Mom told me to...

Because one of the only people who actually read my blog (my mom) told me I needed to have a new post...

I am blogging entirely with cell phone pictures!

So Halloween was this last weekend, obviously. We decorated the house all scary and got ready for trick or treater's!

I didn't have to work on Monday so a couple of us girls decided to dress up the Saturday before.



We are soo tough.


We did some goodies of course!

Sunday morning, Hy and I went out to brunch at a great place in northwest Portland called The Stepping Stone Cafe.

Hy ordered an omelet that had an entire chicken fried steak inside of it... also veggies and slapped with country gravy. Oh and also a PUMPKIN MANCAKE. Yes MANCAKE.



I had a great spinach and potato dish. Amazing quality, tons of food, ridiculously low price. We took a cinnamon roll home with us to eat while watching football.



It was to DIE FOR!

Now that the weather is getting a lot colder, I have been cooking a lot at home.

The wedding cake that Maria, Angel, and myself worked on. Maria did the bulk and then Angel and I delivered it down Hawthorne. It was stacked and piped on location.



I hope everyone has a great couple of weeks. I am sure I will disappear into the pie void for the next 3 weeks. I hope to see you all on the other side!

Upswing

Last week Hy and I celebrated a few things...

1. He asked me to marry him 5 years ago! (That's a lot.)



The man has great taste...obviously.

2. We got married 4 1/2 years ago!







To celebrate we went out for a beautiful dinner. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was perfect, and my date was so handsome.




The year anniversary of my nephew's death was also last week. That was pretty hard, but Jess and Josh are super strong. It also meant that I got give them my year long project of Jrayden! Here are just a few quick pictures that got put in the book...












My life lately??


Lots of cake. Lots of Sauvie Island explorations. Looooots of cake. Paying bills. Cake. Saving money for nest egg. Cake. Hanging out with amazing friends. Waaay too much cake.

In summation...

Utah and Weddings!

I have been thinking about this Utah post since I got back from vacation (PAID VACATION! BOOYAH!) but I have been pretty darn busy. Getting back into the swing of things after vacations are usually hard, and this time was no different!

Where to begin??

I drove the 12 hours from my house to my Grandma Zola's house in AF all alone. It was actually pretty fun! If you know me at all, then you know that the music was deafening and there was carrot sobe a plenty! I wore scrubs and yes I took a picture of myself driving in the middle of Idaho.



I spent the first couple of days in northern Utah hanging out with some of the most wonderful friends a girl could find! We had dinner, watched movies, took in some sights...



I had an all around awesome time. Awesome. I even got dressed up and put make up on!




After a few days up north I made the trek to my parent's house with a few stops along the way.

First I had a very special date to keep,





I love my hometown in the desert!





I spent sometime outside in the backyard...







And I got in some good time with little Miss Wrigley.



I spent some time with my fantastic Grandparents and saw my best girl Sarah. We went for brunch and just spent time together! Also got my hair done and spent time with my parents.

My entire life everyone has said how much I look just like my mom. But after looking at this picture a lot of opinions have changed...



The next day mom and I went back up to GramZ house, stopping for Indian food on the way! Try out the Bombay House if you can, it is our favorite!





The next day it was time to get down to business! The main reason I had gone down that week specifically was to do Ashley Owen's wedding cake! It started by a whole lot of baking, followed by a whole lot of filling, followed by a whole lot of masking!

I don't think Grandma's fridge had ever seen so much cake before!



The drive was a little bit stressful with all of the construction and bike tours in the middle of downtown! I didn't stack the cakes until we got to Joseph Smith Memorial Building and that added to the stress level!

* We had to take the cakes in 2 separate vehicles and my dad sent me texts every 5 minutes along the way letting me know everything was okay! I really appreciated that dad!

Once I got it stacked, it was time to make everything uniform in a rustic manner! That was a lame baking joke. Anyway...

More frosting was involved







After I was done...



The florist came in and did his thing, and together we made one pretty good looking cake!

Everything went great! The food was fantastic
