7th birthday cake

I was asked to pick colors and create a birthday cake for a 7 year old girl. Its obviously not the most gorgeous cake I have ever seen. But it is my first out of school, working with clients, and working at Sweet Cakes. I am excited to do my next one and to keep getting better.

The cake is soo amazing. It is an incredible chocolate cake, with ganache filling, and sliced strawberries. Smelled soo good.

Part of my favorite poem before bed...

...Lead us, as if we were righteous

Into the blue light of heaven.

Where no one will forgive anyone,

just in case it is condescending.

And we will love each other

to the withered toes.

This Week...

I know I should be posting more because so many exciting things are happening. But because so many exciting this ARE HAPPENING I have NO time to blog!

I started working at Sweet Cakes this week. The owner Melissa has graciously offered to take me under her wing and teach me all of the secrets of the cake world. What a great couple of days it has been so far.

Monday:

We started out the day by making 7 cheesecakes. All in preperation for a cheesecake tasting at the end of the week. Flavors varrying from banana fudge cheesecake to White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake. It was incredible. We also made sauces for the lemon and lime flavored cheesecakes...so delish.

Tuesday:

Sat in on my first ever cake tasting and designing session for a bride and a groom planning not only a winter wedding, but an engagement party this weekend. Its amazing to see random ideas turn into a beautifully tasteful cake. We made the engagement cakes then so that we could get started on the Bull Horn decorations...long story!

Wednesday(Today):

Today we made more cheesecakes, two 6" chocolate cake rounds, and two 12" butter cake rounds for a cake that is going out this weekend. Then I torted a pink champagne cake filled with white chocolate ganache filling and sliced strawberries...between each layer! MMM. Then frosted it with delicious buttercream. It was a hilarious birthday cake....imagine it if you will....

On top of a beautifully decorated cake, imagine another cake with a half naked Peter Griffin coming out of it only wearing pastie tassels, heels, and stockings. To die for.

Melissa is soo creative.

Also today we did our own cheese cake tasting to make sure that everything was delicious......and it was. It was insane how good it was.

There are soo many more things that have happened but it is just too much to remember! The main point of this blog is that I love my job and am finding myself getting better and more comfortable with my abilities as every day passes. Pictures as sooon as I decide to take any!

my weekend...

My weekend nights...during this freezing and unpredictable winter.... I can usually be found in the same place.

Nestled comfy on our couch with my husband and puppy.

See, our weekend is almost 100% all about entertaining our littlest member.

-------------------------------------------------

This picture is the one we sent out with our wedding invitations, its located on our fireplace, and one of my all time favorites.

I love this plaque and I also LOVE small black and white photo booths. Hy and I took those goofy pictures this last spring while we were at a HUGE Portland festival on the WaterFront.

Lily and Hy keeping the couch warm....we have to be careful what Lily watches on TV... she gets upset sometimes.

Im sorry but how can you not love this goofy face? This is one of my favorite pictures of her and I think it portrays her personality to a T!

My legs have become the nightly bedtime position for Lily before we head upstairs. She is a big snuggler.

Dying Day....

Faga Fuamatu... RIP January 2009

In his honor, one of his cousins singing one of his songs. You see Faga for a second in white, left hand of the screen.

Taking a day or two...

Lily and I were lazy today and laid round the house. Lily has been having ear problems, the same ones since she was a puppy. And I am just hanging out around the house today. Waiting for Hy to get home from work.

------------------------

Tomorrow Rudee and I are probably going to be hanging out... maybe heading down to China town and the Japanese Peace Garden. Two of my favorite parts of Portland...

------------------------------

Or maybe Hy and I will take a drive out to the Oregon hills, one of my favorite places.

We take our dog parks VERY seriously...

I had major case of stir-crazy today and really felt like I had to get out of the house. So Lily and I decided to hit up the dog park. We got all bundled up only to find out that (once again) Daddy went to work with Lily's leash. The only logical thing to do??

Buy a new one!

Easier said than done. Not wanting to fall prey to corporate establishments, I decided to spread the wealth and buy a leash somewhere other than Petco or Walmart. After 4 stores of only finding leashes for dogs that weigh 20 lbs *read Lily does not!* I succumbed for the least obvious and ended up at Safeway.

Mission accomplished ( 2 hours later)

We ended up a the dog park, which thanks to Vancouver's notorious love of percipitation, was a big old mess of mud. I started out wth a white adorable puppy and ended up with a big old brown mess....who wanted to snuggle.

I didnt take too many photos of the day, and the 2 I did take are definately grainy. My dog does not run slowly...so considering she is actually in the picture.... I will count that as a victory.

Anyway...after the great fun of the dog park (and the after-bath), Hy and I started to settle in for the night. Dinner. Movies. The good stuff. But then I had a back spasm and my muscles in my back locked up! So I spent a fair amount of time tonight checking out our ceiling. Good stuff.

Dance Dance

I just got back from my second dance class of this week. Yesterday was belly dancing and today was hip hop. I forgot that I missed dancing and I also forgot how out of shape I am! It feels really good to be so disgustingly covered in sweat. I didn't make ANY new years resolutions, but I did last week decide that I wanted to start living more. So dance class is only the beginning.

Maybe I will even convince Hyrum to join the ballroom dance class....

I wont hold my breath.
