Oh Friday... how I missed you

Tomorrow is Friday, so you know what that means....Kelly's Korner. Oh yes Kelly's Korner. Its all about wedding parties this week, keeping up with the wedding palooza.

Lets get to the Nitty Gritty

--------------------------------------
Flowers!

I loved my bouquet. It was made up of giant lilies, off white roses, lily of the valley, and a light star gazer or two. My ladies carried lilies as well. There were lilies all over the place and seeing as they are my most favorite flower, I was definitely happy.

I also carried a hanky down with me.My mother had been saving this hanky for me ever since I was a little girl, and kept it safely kept in her cedar chest until this day. It smelled beautifully.

--------------------------------------------------

We decided to have 3 groomsmen and 3 bridesmaids (we just couldn't cut anybody!)

My Hy chose (from right to left) Addison, Randy, and Dave. Dave is one of Hyrum's brother and the one he is the most close to (he lives in Vancouver down the road from us). Randy and Addison have been his good friends since they were little kids, and Addison was our roommate for almost a year. Handsome fellas.

My ladies from left to right:

For my maid of honor there was only ever one choice. Sarah and I are first cousins (our moms are sisters) and we grew up side by side. We are only 2 months apart in age so growing up we always rushed back together! She is one of my closest friends still to this day.

Jess is my sister in law, and not only did she give me the CUTEST nephew EVER, but she has been a really great friend.

And finally Tami! We have been friends since I first moved to Hurricane (age 11)and when we are together we never stop laughing. My favorite memories of growing up usually involve her!

-------------------------------------------------

My ring "bear" was the very handsome nephew Jaxten who was walked down by my oldest brother Josh (his daddy).

-------------------------------------------------

We wanted a really low key wedding with no big frills or "ta dahs" but something that felt really close and tight knit. They built a bench specially for us to put in the enclosure so that my parents and grandparents could sit there. It made us feel as though there was 10 people and the other guests * outside of the enclosure* didn't exist.

We were married on a cliff over looking the desert and the hurricane valley, at the Devito Estate, by my bishop/neighbor/high school guidance counselor/friend Jody Rich. His introduction was very sweet and special to us.

Yesterday's frolics

Yesterday was my birthday and what a blast it was! I started off the day by not going to sleep (at all) and instead chose to go to a VERY early breakfast with Hy. I then spent the rest of the day swimming in the pool, working on my tan, and shopping. I did sleep for 4 hours off and on later in the morning (only to be woken up every 20 minutes by a text or call from my loved ones, its like they were in cahoots or something!)

After waiting for Hy to get off of work...

he spoiled me rotten with presents; he gave me a new purse, new clothes, some gorgeous earrings, and a few pairs of new shoes. He literally spoiled me rotten.

After the present palooza, we went out to a really nice dinner here in Vancouver. I didn't bring my real camera (wasn't really the place for it) but I did sneak in a few pics here and there with my phone.

( I love the look on his face in this picture and could he have ordered me a bigger drink?)

I really loved the atmosphere of the place, it was dark and private which is something I love when I go out to dinner. Places like Red Robin or Applebees just make me uncomfortable. So it was absolutely perfect. They people who waited us said happy birthday a lot, but fortunately there was no singing.

As for today, Hy is already at work and I am just about to get ready to take a quick swim before I'm off to work. Today is supposed to be one of the hottest days of summer, luckily I get to spend it in a room with 4 ovens. Its going to be awesome.

(Maybe I will sweat off the 4 course meal Hy insisted we have, especially my Crab Linguine)

Summer Swimming

Today was a really fun day of relaxing for us. Didn't really do anything special, but we did spend a lot of time in our pool! We finally put up our above ground pool last week, and although the water has been freezing (until Today) we have been swimming in it almost every day!

Our "swim up bar" haha.(Nothing better than a raspberry lime-aid when things get hot!)

And of course, Lily after her swimming lesson. (she is getting better every day!{Plus she enjoys a good lounge on a floaty like everyone else!))

"Show us your life"

Today on Kelly's blog (KellysKornerBlog.com) it is show us your wedding dress. I am still in love with my dress!

I went dress shopping with my 3 bridesmaids (Sarah, Jess, and Tami) and my mom in Las Vegas, and fell instantly in love. The dress I wore was the first one I found and it just was "THE ONE". I tried on a few others, but was already in love!

Its hard to tell with some of the pictures, but the dress is actually champagne colored. I tried the white one on in this design, but the champagne went better with everything we were planning.

I knew before I even started looking that I didn't want a strapless gown, because I felt like it had been done to death. My favorite part of the dress is the way the back and the straps created a different look. My veil was very soft and sheer with a little bit of beading and ribbon.

It didn't have a huge train, put it did have some. (picture with some of the friends of ours that came)

The best part of the whole day?? I got to marry this guy!

Teenagers, Cough Syrup, and Birthday Cake...

Yesterday I was rear ended. (yes in our brand new car!)We were in Portland in semi-slow traffic, and were stopped to make a left hand turn (of course following all vehicular protocol). I was hit by a teenager (in the car with her 3 best friends).

Luckily the whole situation was minor (but a definite headache). They are insured with the same company as we are, so that knocked out a lot of paperwork.I have an appointment in Portland at 8 am (oye can you already imagine the traffic) with a claims adjuster, and then she is going to the shop to get fixed up.

The picture is blurry(cell phone) but the bumper is cracked and that's the only damage.

-----------------------------------------------

Speaking of irritating:

On top of all that crap I have constant allergies and am getting over dehydration, and have caught a wicked cough. So don't call me because I will either sound like I'm going through "the change" or I will hack at you.

Fortunately I have an angel of a doctor who has prescribed me with lots of lidocain *also for my 3 months of sore throat.

---------------------------------------------------

My birthday is just around the corner, and like always I am dreaming of my birthday cake. Normally people don't enjoy making their own birthday cakes, but I love it. This year's proposed theme?

The picture below is more wedding-ish then I would go with it (I'm thinking more funky), but you get the picture.

------------------------------------------------------

I did 2 desserts for Stephanie's birthday and I found the other finally. Essentially the same, but a few different touches (also ignore that its still in the mold and foil... it had to travel to Seattle in 90 degree weather).

The white flowers are hand made gum paste flowers.

Tomorrow is Friday!

Out and About

Today I spent the day in the heart of funky Portland with a girlfriend from school, Rachel. She lives in a really great (and festive) part of town. For lunch we went to a chill place called the "Laughing Planet".

It was such a great atmosphere, really earthy and laid back. I had the most amazing spinach and black bean burrito, with pico de gayo. I love hot sauce like crazy, and they gave me some of the most fierce hot sauce ever.

Rachel and I played a marble game while waiting for our food to come out. We sat underneath a big umbrella, and played and ate. It was really nice to be able to visit with one of my girlfriends again. Definately reminds me that I need make more of an effort to spend time with my ladies, because today was lots of fun.

I am constantly surprised at all of the neat places I am finding in Portland. This summer is definitely shaping up to be a great one. I want to explore every little corner of PDX. Unlike most cities (which are filthy and disgusting) Portland has an energy and scene that cant be matched

Next Week's Adventure:

Pix Patisserie where they have tons of yummy treats, perfect for a lady like me!

PS we got the pool up and are loving getting off work and jumping right in! We are teaching Lily to swim better. haha

Secret Dessert

This weekend is the birthday of Stephanie, (turning 30) a friend of ours.

She doesn't usually like sweet things (weird right? haha)but now that she is just past 8 months pregnant she is craving them more.

They were also at the BBQ at M & T's, and Stephanie ended up falling in love with my Raspberry Lemon Cheesecake.

Her husband (Truman) got a hold of me around Tuesday and asked if I would make her a special one for her birthday. I love making things for friends, so I decided it would be something fun to do. I dropped it off with Truman at 6 this morning, so he could hide it and suprise her tomorrow night, at her suprise party!

It was really fun and kept me busy for a little bit.

Tutting along...

Loving this summer!

Been plucking away at home sketching cakes and working on a secret project. One of my friends wanted me to make a very special treat for another one of our friends. So I will be working on that for the next 2 nights. Fun! Ill put pictures and the story up this weekend...when its safe!

P.S. I have the most GIANT mosquito bug bite ever on my arm. Driving me nuts!

I have been cooking a little bit more than usual. Ive worked out a low-step system for about 10 different gourmet recipes and have been having a blast. Plus I got some cute new robins egg blue plates that make everything look better.

(Can you tell I spend a lot of time cooking in there? Definitely lived in!)

Last night I made some killer crab cakes.

Now normally I hate all things like green onions and celery. But I personally think that crab cakes need a little crunch to break up the texture a little. So I like to add in chopped up jalapenos. I also like 3 parts fresh jalapeno juice versus 2 parts Worshtecier sauce.

So good.

Other than that, we have just really been enjoying our summer together. I love being in our house. Now that we dont have white walls EVERYWHERE, I really enjoy spending time here.

And Ive been really into Gladiolus lately. THey are all over our house right now.
