Southern Utah

I am leaving southern Utah tomorrow morning and heading up north to spend the night......before we head back to Portland and back to our every day lives. YAWN.


I have been spending lots and lots of time with my sweet 3 year old nephew. Hy and I have been driving around taking pictures of my hometown and that sweet little boy. I have so many pictures to share but am only showing a few. The rest will be my own little stash.

Wedding Cake Project

The cake is high-ratio lemon cake and the filling is lemon butter cream. I drove it all the way home to Hurricane from Portland, and we put a bunch of candles on it for my dads birthday...which is Monday and which I will be missing. I got an A on it!

My life....in numbers

1.5-days left until we leave for our Utah Thanksgiving vacation!

19-months that Mr. Johnson and I have been wed

27-amount of papers I have had to write in the last 4 months

1-adorable puppy sleeping in my bed

4-time of morning I have to get up Monday- Friday

6-layers of cake in my wedding cake that I am bringing home for Thanksgiving

0-number of children we are currently expecting-haha

1- classes left until I am elligable to graduate from College

4- days of vacation before having to return to my chocolatier class

Today in class

I made a celebration cake for my girlfriend Cassandra and her soon to be baby girl!

The cake is high ratio white cake with French buttercream and raspberry filling. Draped with Marzipan and covered in hand made poured Fondant ( crazy crazy crazy). Then I placed lots of marzipan flowers and side decorations with buttercream hand piped flowers for a fun girly little cake.

We start more wedding cakes tomorrow!

Childrens Celebration Cake

Today I finally finished my childrens celebration cake! The pastillage took a weird turn ( weather or something??) and took much longer to dry than the usual 3 days.
So the cake is Devils Food and the icing is chocolate butter cream. The pastillage plaque is painted with cocoa and gin and accented with modeling chocolate. The figure is out of white and dark modeling chocolate. Combed the sides and shell border piped.

Seattle on a Sunday...

Today we left the house at a very early hour of 7 ( hey its a weekend!) and gathered a few of our friends. We then went off to Seattle to watch a SeaHawks game...NFL... it was super fun. We just got back and the both of us are super exhausted. Thought I would post some quick pictures of our trip!

Pablo

My nephew loves the BackYardigans. I have to make a childrens cake for my celebration cakes class, using only chocolate. So I created PABLO PANGUIN out of white and dark modeling chocolate and royal icing. The modeling chocolate- especially the white- starts the melt almost immediately after you touch it. So finess is a little more than difficult! I am waiting on my pastillage plaque that I painted with cocoa powder and rum to dry, so I can assemble the whole piece. So for now..... meet pablo...

I have been saying pictures tomorrow for a few posts now, but I am soo busy making wedding cakes that I have no time to breath.

tonight....

Tonight Hy and I have tickets to an NBA game at the Rose Garden. We are going to see our home team the Trailblazers play the Minnisota Timberwolves. I am pretty excited. We are going with my girlfriend Rudee and her boyfriend John.

We also had them over for dinner last night and then we went and saw the new movie "Role Models". Pretty vulgar....pretty hilarious. We had a great date night. So for right now I am going to go practice working with modeling chocolate and marzipan, then get ready for our night with the NBA!

P.S. We got such freaking sweet tickets and we get to go early and hang out with the players while they warm up a few hours before the game! NICE....Pictures tomorrow

Honors List

Today I made the honors list for the second time and I am super excited. It will look great in my portfolio next to the other Honors List award and Deans List award.

TOmorrow I have two group plate ups

1. Seasonal ( am thinking of doing something with apples)

2. and a Caramelized Pear Charlotte (Yum)
